He was predeceased by: his parents, Valentine Heckelmann and Magdalena Heckelmann (Barthel); and his siblings, Bernhard and Lieslot. He is survived by: his wife Ilona Heckelmann (Marksz); his sister Marga Lutz; and his son Bernt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
