He was predeceased by: his wife Jo Ann Green; and his children, Ray Carpenter, Charlotte Dalton, Patricia Piper and Deborah Piper.

He is survived by: his children, James W. Piper (Missy), Connie White and Clarence Michael Walton (Andrea). He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
