He was predeceased by: his mother Maye Belle Nitrauer; his stepfather Carl Streby; his brother John; and his daughter Carolyn Nitrauer. He is survived by: his wife Melissa Nitrauer of Lima, Ohio; his children, Nick Nitrauer, Brenda Bartholomew (Russell), Joni Nitrauer-Oxley, Christopher Nitrauer (Nikki), Robert Nitrauer and Jaime Fey (Andrew); and his grandchildren, Andrea Shearn (Kevin), Kelly Rees (Faith), Gretchen Fabian (Jason), Johnathon Finney (Jordan), Ryan McCaslin (Meagan), Zach Oxley (Heather), Kyle Nitrauer (Hayley), Amber Nitrauer, Alexandra Putnam, Brynn and Lauren (Abigail MtJoy). He is also survived by his 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
