He was predeceased by: his father Charles James. He is survived by: his wife Nancy VonderHaar James; his children, Richard James (Andrea) and Beth Dalvi (Mahesh); his stepdaughters, Kristin Meece (Scott Lohman) and Denise Kernan; his siblings, Phillip James (Carolyn) and Diana Kitchen (Chuck); and his grandchildren, Cameron Clark, Cole James, Clay James and Franklin Kernan.

In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
