He was predeceased by: his parents, Rant Bolen and Bertha Bolen (Chaffins); his wife Billie Jo Bolen (Baugh); his children, Melvin, Elmer Bolen Jr., Tonia Rowe and Bertha Hale; and his siblings, Robert, Vernon, Delbert, Toby, Luther Bolen, Gracie, Yvonne, Thelma, Mandy, Chelsey, Josie, Martha and Alma.
He is survived by: his children, Michael Bolen of Portsmouth, Ralph Bolen of West Portsmouth, Ohio, Joyce Lovejoy of West Hamlin, Libby Neace of Delaware and Penny Bragg of Hamlin; and his siblings, Mitchell Bolen of Rodchester, Indiana and Elsie Slone of Pippapass, Kentucky. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
