He is survived by: his wife Donna Gates (Cantrell); his children, Robert Gates of Lebanon, KY, Samuel Gates of Ontonagon, MI, Sean Gates (Sara) of Grovetown, GA, Kimberly Filipiak (William) of Northville, MI, Tyler Gates (JoEllen) of Laura, OH, Cory Beshures (Eric) of Oswego, NY and Clint Sewell of Huber Heights, OH.; his siblings, Sherry Potchynok (Richard) of Northville, MI, Barry Gates of Ann Arbor, MI, Terry Whelan (Jim) of Coldwater, MI and Rick Gates of Coldwater, MI; his father-in-law Cam Cantrell of Dayton, OH; his nephew Joshua Cantrell; and his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Emelyn, Jackson, Colin, Beatrice, Finnley, Gentry, Gibson and Adler. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
