He was predeceased by: his parents, J. Wilbur Bates and Ruth Bates (Watts); and his sister Inez Brannon. He is survived by: his wife Donna Bates (Yoho); his children, Steve Bates (Darlene) of West Mansfield, Scott Bates (Linda) of West Mansfield and Sondra Bates (Lori Matassa) of Phoeniz, AZ; and his grandchildren, Brandy Liles (Jay), Bridget Smith, Brad Bates (Mikki), Brian Bates (Chaya), John Bates (Jamie), Emily Pena' (Derrick) and Holly Mays (Nick). He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to Universal Home Health and Hospice in memory of Bernie.
