He was predeceased by: his parents, Irvin Prater and Martha Prater (Amerine); his former wife Ruth W. Prater; his wife Doris Ward Prater; and his siblings, Mary Helen, Dorothy, Ruby, John and Dwight.
He is survived by: his sons, Stephen Prater (Nancy) and Mark Prater (Susan Roush); and his grandson Christopher Prater. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
