He is survived by: his wife Barbara (Hockenbery); his children, Kevin Ellinger (Renee), Doug Ellinger (Shelley), Kim Haley and Laura Francis; his brother Richard Ellinger (Linda); his grandchildren, Sarah Melfi (Vince), Emily Carruthers (Mark), Nathan Haley, Avery Wildman (Dylan), Jonathan Francis (Cassie), Jeffrey Francis (Paige), Joseph Francis (Bailey), Mitchell Ellinger (Cindy), Dana Dalton (Patrick) and Martin Ellinger; his great grandchildren, Charlie, Anna Melfi, Eric, Benjamin Carruthers, Sylvie Wildman, Major Francis, Gentry Francis, Theodore, Anne Ellinger and Juniper Dalton; his nieces, Erin Baxter (Wes) and Lara Fetzer (Martin); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Noelle Baxter, Gabriel, Beckett and Louisa Fetzer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Gene's name be made to the West Jefferson United Methodist Church or to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry in West Jefferson.
