He was predeceased by: his parents, Raleigh Sexton and Flora Sexton (Staggs); his children, Joe Sexton, Jr. and Terri Pierce; his grandson Dakota Sexton; the mother of his children Lulabelle Sexton; and his siblings, Lawrence, Carson Sexton, Velma Hendrickson and Wade Sexton.

He is survived by: his daughters, Tyonna Williams (Rick) and Pam Sexton; his grandchildren, Randall Jr. Huffine (Courtney), Tiffany Manring (Keith), Misty Huffine, Michael Williams (Mandee), Shantell Sexton and Justin Sexton; and his siblings, Wayne Sexton (Alice), Paul Sexton, Jan Norman, Juanita Graham (Andy) and Elinor McIntire (Jim). He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson.

“I pray that Elizabeth Sexton (Joe's second wife), will greet him with open arms in Heaven. The lifestyle that Joe led back in those days was not one that she and he could live together with. The door was always open for him to have a part in their two childrens' lives and the grandchildren he had on her side. I know Elizabeth always had a forgiving heart, and always wished him peace. I know Joe changed his way of living and went on to share memories with family in Ohio for which I am thankful.”
