He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Newberry and Vaudney Newberry (Phipps); his son Michael Newberry; and his siblings, Cecil, Jack, Sidney, Dolly Mullins and Irene Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Ethel; his children, Danny Newberry (Carolyn), Freda Lilly and Jo Anne Lindsey (Marvin); and his siblings, James, Jerry, Bill, Kathryn Phipps (Avery) and Ann Moore. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
