He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Christopher Shanks and Catherine Jane Mosteller Shanks; his spouse Berma Jean Thomas Shanks; his brother Richard Dale Shanks; his granddaughter Tessa Ann Walker; his great grandchild Macie Williams; and his brother-in-law Sonnie Brewster.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Shanks Martin of Chillicothe, Melodie Noble (Jeff) of Waverly, John Shanks (Tammy) of Wakefield, Thomas Kent Shanks of Latham and Jerry Ray Shanks (Sherry) of Peebles; his sister Yvonne Brewster of Piketon; and his grandchildren, Jade Martin Willis (Rob), Tyler Christopher Martin, John Darrell Shanks III (Jenny), Sara Beth Shanks, Christopher Kent Shanks (Mandy), Latosha Shanks Russell (Ryan), Jeffrey Robert-Christopher Noble, Jennifer Shanks Williams (Dale), Vince Shanks (Tabitha), Nicolas Shanks (Hannah) and Cecilia Catherine Shanks Ottens (Timothy). He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home (314 E North St, Waverly, OH 45690). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, January 16th 2025 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
