He was predeceased by: his parents, David R. Markley and Wanda Markley-Leppla (Mizer); his stepfather H. Dave Leppla; his brother Andy Markley; and his brother-in-law Tom Miller.

He is survived by: his daughters, Hayley Caraballo (Chris), Emily Higdon (Blair) and Katie Hardesty; his grandsons, Cooper Caraballo, Decker Caraballo and Jett Higdon; and his siblings, Patricia Miller, David Markley (Pam), Steve Leppla and Dave Leppla.

“Chug He was my friend he laughed at my humor and we always had fun.He was fearless and a fighter.While I have a lot of Chug stories I remember when I was home and having a beer with him and he said" I gotta tell you something " You know when we played football together ? You remember when people used to cleat you and you would get angry and play harder?Yes I said it did seem to happen frequently Why? He said that was me because we needed you”
