He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard J. Newlun and Georgia Newlun Prater (Scott); his stepfathers, Kenneth McDonnell and Pastor Wayne Prater; and his brother Robert R. Newlun.

He is survived by: his wife Cherre Newlun of Wapakoneta; his children, Linda "Suzie" Welker (Derek) of Schertz, TX, Shirley McLeod of LaVernia, TX and Gregg Burgoon of Lima; his grandchildren, Emily, Haley, Aiden Welker, Shelby, Kolby, Kenedi, McLeod and Brett Burgoon; his siblings, Joseph McDonnell (Tammy) of Lima, William McDonnell (Tracy) of Alger, Jeffrey Prater of Sierra Vista, AZ, Darin Prater (Brenda) of Stephens City, VA, Linda Spinelli (Bob) of Erie, PA, Sharon Lehew of Stephens City, VA, Lorisa Davis (Todd) of Bushnell, FL and Shona Lapsley (Ron) of Stephens City, VA; his sister-in-law Paula Newlun of Lima; and his pet Bella. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
