He was predeceased by: his parents, J. V. Brown and Annis Brown. He is survived by: his spouse Jenienne Ann Fisher; his children, Karen Burns (Marvin), David Brown (Kathy), Timothy Brown (Cindy) and Michael Brown (Kellie); and his sister Joan Large (Hugh). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church.

“I will always remember Uncle Dick's smile. He offered it sincerely and freely. I was always happy to have him near. He was happy to play games with us and share stories of the family. When my daughter Angie died the day after Uncle Leland. My parents were on their way to his funeral and I was unable to reach them. It was Uncle Dick who comforted me. He told me that Grandma said someone always had to go ahead to wait for the arrival of those following. I know he's there waiting for us all”
