It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Scates of Wadsworth, Ohio, born in Detroit, Michigan, who passed away on November 23, 2020, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Louis and Mary Blanche Scates (Musgrave); and his wife Judy K. Fisher. He is survived by: his children, James Lee Scates (Teri) of Marion, Meredith Wilson (Woody) of West Mansfield, Kent Phillips of Seville, Brian Phillips (Jenny) of Medina, Merae Phillips Whitmyer of Seville and Karen Quillen (Jerry) of Sandusky; his grandchildren, Jessica Scates (Austin Kuczewski), Sarah Scates, James Brody Wilson, Ryan Phillips (Jenna), Heather Phillips, Holly Phillips, Katherine Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Brooklyn Whitmyer, Scotty Whitmyer and Ava Quillen; his great grandchild Jack Phillips; and his brother Mike Scates (Debbie) of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
