He was predeceased by: his parents, L. L. Hofmann and Adela Hofmann (Etzler); his sister Pauline; and his brother-in-law Glenn Bauermeister. He is survived by: his wife Dolores M. Rodenbeck; his children, Annette Hirschy (Kevin) of Van Wert, Denise Nicolai (Brad) of Van Wert and Steven Hofmann (LeeAnn) of Columbus; his grandchildren, Chad Hirschy (Whittany), Craig Hirschy, Cory Hirschy (Taylor), Audrey Nicolai, Aimee Nicolai and Gwendolyn Hofmann; and his great grandchildren, Lea, Kaelynn and Claire Hirschy.
