He was predeceased by: his parents, Forest E. Conkel and Opal Rosalie Conkel (Mossbarger); his wife Linda Conkel (Haynes); his daughter Lisa Ann; and his siblings, Charles, Stanley and Geneva Jane Collins.
He is survived by: his children, John W. Conkel II (Chris), Jean Mary Herman (Herb), Linn Payne (Tina), Jerry W. Gamble (Medie), Larry Gamble (Tammy), George Thomas Rice and Judith Marier Brewer; and his siblings, David Conkel (Mary), Mary Locke and Linda Zirkle (Denney). He is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
