He was predeceased by: his parents, Calvin Thomas and Louise Thomas (Bronson); his wife Arsel Mae Thomas (Newsome); his daughter Gayle Artis; and his brothers, Paul Jones and Robert Thomas.
He is survived by: his children, Michelle Porter (Herb) and John Arthur Thomas (Karen); his son-in-law Steve Artis; his grandchildren, Anthony Artis (Celeste), Cortney Porter, Alexa Porter, Leslie Bowman (Eli), Shalla Johnson (Rich), Josh Porter, Faith Brown (Martez), Matt Artis (Stephanie), Rachel Artis (Ash), Jonathan Thomas (Delaine) and Heather Hertel (Johnny); and his brother Herb Thomas. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.
