It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Barbara Jane Dern of Urbana, Ohio, born in Lima, Ohio, who passed away on October 31, 2020, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Nolan Robert and Mildred Wilda Mosier (VanMeter); her former husband Don Schertzer; and her husband Dr. William Dern. She is survived by: her daughter Michelle Lynn Gaver (Schertzer); her grandchildren, Grant Donald Toepfer-Gaver (Carly) and Hannah Elizabeth Gaver; her great grandchildren, Leona Toepfer-Gaver of St. Paris, Ohio. and Parker Lowe of St. Paris, Ohio.; her sister Debra Thomas (Martin) of Elia, Ohio; her stepson Keith Dern (Dee); and her sister-in-law Ruth Eaken of Medina, Ohio. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Walter & Lewis Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 p. m. Due to Covid-19, masks will be required to pay your respects to Barbara's family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to PAWS Animal Shelter or Champaign County Cancer Association in Barbara's honor.
