He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles M. Newell and Kathryn Newell (Stalter); and his sister-in-law Corinne Newell. He is survived by: his wife Darlene A. Williams; his daughters, Janet Summers (William) and Jennifer Smalley (James); his grandchildren, Matthew Newell (Jessica), David Newell (Katelyn), Jonathan Newell, Jessica Newell, Eric Smalley, Sara Hughes (Jesse), Michael Smalley (Alexa), Lee Summers (Paige) and Jason Summers (Kiera); and his siblings, Allen Newell and Shirley Gibson (David) of Upper Sandusky. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
