He was predeceased by: his parents, John Kopfinger and Ruth "Mimi" Kopfinger; and his brother Dr. Arnold Kopfinger. He is survived by: his wife Betty Kopfinger; his children, Laura Kopfinger Chase (Chris), Mary Margaret Dorsey (Sean) and John Allen Kopfinger; his grandchild MacKenzie Kopfinger; and his sister Margarette "Arlene" Schneider.
