He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer C. Smith and Ruth B. Smith (Lawver); his wife Barbara Antonia Holzmann; his son Dale W. Smith; his son-in-law Scott Oberholzer; his granddaughter Kailee Smith; and his brothers, Glen, Raymond and Chalmers Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Barb Oberholzer, David E. Smith (Dotti) and Michael A. Smith (Lori); his daughter-in-law Pam Smith; and his grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Grant Smith (Jess), Paige Yelverton (Cory), Kiersten Young, Ginger Smith and D'Ann Blankenship. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
