He was predeceased by: his parents, James O. Garrett and Helen M. Garrett (Tharp); his son Michael A. Garrett; and his siblings, Harold, James, Bill, Louis "Henry", Bonnie, Lurlene, Estelle and Mary Kay.
He is survived by: his wife Marilyn L. (Wells); his children, Michele Brick (Steven) and Ryan Garrett; his grandchildren, Brandon Garrett, Drew, Alexa Brick, Morgan Fisher (Zeb), Danielle and Carter Garrett; his great grandchildren, Ella and Grayson; and his sisters, Beverly Langdon (Bill), Carolyn Anderson (Larry) and Jean Ann Padgett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
