He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Messler and Jessie Messler (Newton); and his siblings-in-law, Webster Eugene Lawson and Mary Alice Jackson (Lawson). He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Lawson; his sons, Richard Smith Messler III, Steven Michael Messler and David Brian Messler; his grandchildren, Lara Leighann Messler (Cody Magato) of Tipp City and Colin Taylor Messler (Brianne Nicole) of West Milton, Ohio.; and his great grandchildren, Jayden Shawn Magato and Landon Jayce Messler.
Visitation was held on Monday, March 10th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Baird Funeral Home (555 N Market St, Troy, OH 45373). A graveside service was held on Tuesday, March 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Woodland Cemetery (118 Woodland Ave, Dayton, OH 45409).
