He was predeceased by: his father Charles Whitman; his son Joseph Russel Whitman; and his siblings, Joseph, Charles Jr., Eber Whitman and Eleanor Lenkey.

He is survived by: his children, Douglas Roger Whitman (Faith) of Steubenville, Autumn of Toronto, Bethany of Toronto, Branden of Toronto, Lilli of Toronto, Nicholas of Toronto and Ryder of Toronto; and his siblings, Mary Gouveia (Leroy) and Raymond Whitman (Anita).
