He was predeceased by: his parents, Cruz Ruiz and Isabel Ruiz (Cervantes); his son Angelo Ruiz; his grandson Santiago "Dewie" Ruiz, Jr.; and his sisters, Josephine Ruiz-Gartee and Rita Ruiz.

He is survived by: his children, John Dorn, Santiago Ruiz (Kristi) and Marcellina Ruiz (Rudy); his former wife Elena Parraz; his stepson Joseph Parraz; and his siblings, Cruz Ruiz, Jr. (Nancy), Pedro Ruiz (Estella), Guadalupe Ruiz (Maria), Abelino Ruiz (Jeanne), Isabel "Kitty" Young, Mary Canales and Alisia Ruiz.
