Marcella E. Maas Obituary

Maas (Toledo, Ohio), born in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, who passed away on July 23, 2018, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6 (KJV) Marcella "Mickey" Emelia Maas, age 93 of Toledo, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018. Mickey was born November 12, 1924, in Cedarburg, WI, to William and Rose Erdmann. She became a child of God through baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg where she was later Confirmed. On May 5, 1945, she married Reverend Norman A. Maas. After serving as an aid for the Gratiot County Association for Retarded Children, she decided to complete her high school education. Attending night school for 2 years, she obtained her high school diploma from St. Louis High School, St. Louis, MI, in 1969. Mickey's love for working with mentally handicapped children led her to further her education graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1975. Mickey worked at Sunshine Children's Home for 15 years as an Educational Specialist in the Clinical Services Department. She taught many of the children there how to read and do basic math at a time when it was thought this could not be done. She also developed a STEP program designed to benefit Sunshine employees. Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Nikki Lynn Jagow, nee Maas. Mickey is survived by her son, Michael (Linda); son-in-law, Donald Jagow (Marye); 4 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 10: 00 AM to Noon, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3360 Nebraska Ave. Toledo, OH 43607. Funeral services will begin at Noon, followed by interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sunshine Communities, 7223 Maumee Western Rd, Maumee, OH 43537 or Zion Lutheran Church and School. Special thanks to Oakleaf Village and Hospice nurses and aides for the wonderful care they provided for Mickey in her last years.
