He is survived by: his siblings, Kristi Brewer of Columbus, Sally Marlowe (Charles) of Toledo and Richard (Patricia) of Toronto, Ontario; his children, John P. Hayward (Patricia McCormick) of Perrysburg, Thomas Hayward (Tom Wright) of Lexington, Kentucky, Bridget Kahle (John) of Columbus and Ethan Hayward (Melinda) of Waterford, Michigan; his stepchildren, Michael Bugert (Angie) of Toledo, Kristi DelVerne (James) of Toledo, Gretchen Williams (Ryan) of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Jennifer Norman (Chad) of Mt. Pleasant; his grandsons, Benjamin (Ashley) and Ian Bonifas; his stepchildren, Emma, Grant, Cecily Hayward, Anna, Caroline Kahle, Megan and Amelia Hayward; his great grandchild Elizabeth Bonifas; and his stepgrandchildren, Theodore, Lindsay, Megan Bugert, Amanda, William, Nicole, Olivia, Sophia DelVerne, Abigail, Courtney Williams, Cooper, Graham and Zoe Norman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
It was John's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable contributions to the Library Legacy Foundation of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
