He was predeceased by: his parents, Monique Gengler Brunner and Frank Joseph Brunner; and his siblings, Mary Pat Birsen, Suzanne Schroeder and David.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen; his children, Jack Brunner (Suzanne), Sue Spera (Thomas) and Rick Brunner (Jennifer Murtagh); and his grandchildren, Jack Brunner (Susan), Michael Brunner, Katie Sandvik (Jake), Jennifer Feldhausen (Evan), Allison Pederson (Brent), Christine Sidlak (Alex), Jacqueline, Stephen, Michael Spera, William Brunner (Alexandra), Robert Brunner (Shea) and James Brunner. He is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the John F. Brunner Scholarship Fund at Central Catholic High School.

“Dr John F Brunner was the first MD, I met at Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio in 1971, when I started my internship there. He was an excellent and dedicated physcian and a great teacher to all the interns and residents at Mercy Hospital. I learnt a lot during my rotation with Dr Brunner. He was my mentor and he always defended me and guided me, all thro' my residency at MCO. my deepest ,heart felt condolences to his family. He was a noble soul and he'll be missed May him rest in eternal peace.!”
