He was predeceased by: his parents, LeRoy Johnson and Luedella Johnson (Covington); and his siblings, Elbert, LeRoy Johnson, Jr., Lindsay Johnson and Ruby Lee Murria.

He is survived by: his children, Howard Johnson, Jr., Lisa Johnson and Nicole Carson; his sister Mary Helen Kelley (Gene); his grandchildren, Ryan Lee Johnson, Chloe Truitt, Matthew Carson and Rachel Carson; and his great grandchild Giovanni "Gio" Castoreno. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and great-great nieces & nephews.
