He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Coates and Pauline Coates (Riley); his siblings, Ronald Coates, Arnold Coates (Bud) and Catherine Shuff; his wife Brenda Coates (Mozingo); his children, Misty Luna, Candice Coates, Sarah Solorio, Stephanie Pedigo and Daryl Coates; and his stepchildren, Lisa Chapman, Frank Chapman (Jen) and Kyle Chapman.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Jacob, Daniel Coates, Olivia Pedigo, Ashawn Heard, Ariana McCreary, Amelia Grey, De'Ron Jr. Williams and LeeLand Chapman; and his great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Malia Coates.
Visitation was held on Monday, March 24th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home (3453 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614). A funeral service was held on Monday, March 24th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
