He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert T. Barrera and Mercedes Barrera (Sanchez); the mother of his children Lydia; and his siblings, Lucy, Terri and Joe.

He is survived by: his children, Christina Barrera, David Barrera Jr. and Marcus Barrera (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Abeni, Evangela, Damion Jr., Damon, Salycia, David III, Bria, Christina, Jose and Marcus II; and his siblings, Helen, Debbie Barrera, Robert (Kim), Ricky (Diane), Johnny (Chris) and Tomas Barrera. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in support of David's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
