Bryan D. Ellis Obituary
Bryan D. Ellis, age 50, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by so much love, on August 13, 2023. Son of Lana Angelotti and the late Bruce Ellis. Cherished husband of Jenna Ellis and father of Annabelle and Landon Ellis. Brother of Jeff (Toni Wozniak) Ellis. Loving uncle of Kayleigh Ellis.
Bryan was born and raised in Toledo, OH. He completed his secondary education at Roy C. Start High School in Toledo, OH where he enjoyed running cross country. Bryan continued his education at the University of Toledo where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering in 1998. After passing his EIT (Engineer in Training) exam and completing the required hours, he obtained his Professional Engineering license. He also attended Owens Community College where he received credits for land surveying that allowed him to take the SIT (Surveyor in Training) exam and later he became a licensed land surveyor. Bryan was licensed in both land surveying and engineering in Ohio and Michigan and land surveying in Indiana.
He worked for various land surveying and civil engineering companies before starting his own company Glass City Engineering and Surveying, LLC in 2006. As the company grew he acquired GM Barton Survey Co and later he also purchased the records for National Survey Service. Bryan was a history buff regarding land surveys and really enjoyed the research part of his job and having the historical records on hand.
Bryan enjoyed having different appointments throughout his career, too. He was a Chairman for the Lucas County Access Management Appeals Board from 2009 to 2022. He was also an active member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio (PLSO). He was the Toledo Chapter PLSO President in 2011 and the PLSO Executive Board Treasurer in 2012.
Bryan also had a passion for education and development in the land surveying field. He taught an introduction to land surveying course in the Civil Engineering department at the University of Toledo from 2007 until 2017. He was committed to helping all of his students succeed and served as the University of Toledo ASCE student chapter advisor. He also participated in The Boy Scouts of America programs to help those interested receive their surveying merit badge.
Bryan met his loving wife and soulmate, Jenna Ellis in the summer of 2008. They were later married in Hocking Hills, Ohio on May 26, 2012. They welcomed their daughter, Annabelle, in March of 2013 and son, Landon, in September of 2015. Bryan will lovingly be remembered as an active participant in his family and a "hands-on" dad. Bryan's family enjoyed joining him for land surveying field work all over the state of Ohio and Southeastern, Michigan. His family also enjoyed looking for survey markers on all family vacations.
Bryan will be greatly missed, but the knowledge and caring nature that he blessed his family, friends, employees, students, and clients with will be forever memorialized in the wonderful memories of him.
Bryan was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Ellis; step-father, Anthony Angelotti; and his dogs that provided unconditional love throughout the years, Chopper and Andre.

Bryan. Jenna and family. You have been a part of our lives for 35 years. A great step-brother and uncle to my sons. You will be truly missed but never forgotten. Love you always, PJ.
Patricia Osborn - August 20, 2023 There's so much to say but I will sum it up in just a few words…. What a dude!! Bryan is the epitome of what people should search their hearts to be. He had a great brother Jeff and family and none of his achievements would happen if it weren't for the loving care and concerns for his growth if it weren't for his mother Lana. Jenna, Annabelle and Landon had an exceptional person in their lives that will carry through them for generations. Rest in peace Bryan. It's only a short while till we meet again.
Richard Hermanson - August 17, 2023 At 43 years old I lost my job and was on unemployment when I decided to return to engineering school. My first semester at UT, Bryan (who was the surveying instructor) offered me a co-op position working as a field surveyor. At the time, he was running his business out of his home. He was an incredibly driven and ambitious person who always tried to do the right thing for his family. He was a great father and husband and never lacked passion for work or life. I will remain indebted to Bryan for helping me rebuild my life from unemployment to now being a civil engineer with the City of Toledo. If we could all live our lives with the same passion Bryan did, the world would be an incredible place.
Aaron Babar Stelzer - August 17, 2023 Bryan and I are the two cousins in the Hermanson family that are the same age. So when all our moms and dads got together, we hung out a lot. I remember him always wanting to do crazy things like climbing up into a tree to look into the bird houses to see if there were any birds. No birds, but unfortunately for us, since I followed him up of course, there were bees in there. We had great fun whenever we went to Toledo to visit everyone. He introduced me to Garbage Pail kid stickers. We acted out Star Wars, forcing younger cousins to be the androids. And, we went to Cedar Point alot. Probably my most memorable time is when he stayed with us for a summer in Stanley. We went fishing, biking, camping. He was the brother I never had. It was great. Of course Bryan had to insert his bit of adventure into the stay, as one day my mom found that he was keeping Gardner snakes under his bed in a box. They seemed like good pets at the time to him :). I will miss you so much my wonderful Cousin Bryan!!! Rachel.
Rachel Hawker - August 16, 2023 Being a younger cousin in the Hermanson family, I remember lovingly referring to our older cousin Bryan as "Uncle Bryan.". He always loved to play with us when we were kids and I remember one trip going to Disney when he joined us. I will always remember we were sitting down eating ice cream, and "Uncle" Bryan was goofing around, trying to make us triplets believe that the chocolate sprinkles we really chocolate covered ants! We laughed so much! I know Bryan will be remembered by many to be a sweet, kind, and funny man. He will be sorely missed.
Erika Hermanson - August 16, 2023 Dear Lana, I did not have the pleasure of knowing your son, but knowing you he had to be one of the best. My heart goes out to you and your Family. God bless all of you and I will keep you in my prayers. Judy Burzynski ~ Judy Burzynski - August 16, 2023 Bryan and I are the two cousins in the Hermanson family that are the same age. Rachel Hawker - August 16, 2023 We are Bryan's family for 35 years. Bryan was a wonderful addition to our family when Lana and dad married. He and Jeff fit right in as brothers to all 7 of us. I remember going to Jenna and Bryan's wedding and having the best time dancing and celebrating their love. Could not be more proud of his accomplishments as a business owner and more proud of him as a father to 2 beautiful children and a wonderful husband as well. Bryan you will always be in our hearts and will miss you.
