He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorsey Harold and Elrita Cooley, Sr. (Hall). He is survived by: his children, Dr. Joel Cooley of Virginia Beach, VA, David Cooley (Sandra) of Tiffin and DeAnna Hufford (Chris) of Bloomville; his grandchildren, Teá Cooley, Jonathan Hufford, Janelle Smith (Eric) and Justin Turpin (Kari); his great grandchildren, Mason Trumbull, Maddi Turpin and Myla Turpin; and his sister Ann Winegardner (Don) of Republic. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
