He was predeceased by: his parents, Lon Hays and Ellen Hays (Hughes); and his sibling Phyllis. He is survived by: his wife Carol; his son John; his daughter-in-law Yvonne; his granddaughter Carsen; and his nephews, Gregory, Bradley and Lonnie Helms. He is also survived by cousins and dear life long friends.
