He was predeceased by: his parents, Lewis M. Umphrey and Mildred Umphrey (Krieger); his siblings, Ermine Umphrey, Lolita Piedt and Boyd Umphrey; and his grandson Craig Ries.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Meyer; his daughters, Karla Ries (Randy), Lori Saunders (Scott) and Terri Goldmann (Robert); his grandchildren, Jocelyn Steffes (David), Brian Saunders (Molly), Alan Saunders, Shari Saunders and Matthew Goldmann; and his brother Virgil Umphrey.

The family suggests contributions to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or a charity of their choice.
