He is survived by: his wife Norma; his children, James, Jr. (Anita), Pamela (Paula), David (Danielle) and Daniel Briggs; his grandchildren, Ryan Briggs (Katie), Erin Tower, Gwendolyn Briggs and Audrey Briggs; his great grandchildren, Aiva Tower, Madelyn Tower and Edison Briggs; and his sister Betty Carmichael of Youngstown.
