He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard W. Smith and E. Myrtle Smith (Whitt); his former wives, Doris E. (Clark) and Peggy J. Ratliff (Mullins); his son Ricky Smith; his grandsons, Ricky Smith Jr., Shannon Smith and Travis Smith; and his siblings, Elwood Smith, Pauline "Polly" Schoenberger and Mavis Seymour.

He is survived by: his children, Deborah Smith (James) of Westerville and James R. Smith (Deborah) of South Carolina; his grandchildren, Cory, Kristy, Cammy, Tony and Shilo; his great grandchildren, Steven, Corbin, Hudson, Cora, Holton, Kaden, Anthony, Cameron, Lexi, Brooke, Scarlett and Jackson; and his fiancée Betty Hall of Rich Hill. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
