He was predeceased by: his parents, James Dowdy and Mary Lee Dowdy; and his wife Helen. He is survived by: his daughter Patrice Timothy (Steven) of Sullivan; and his grandchildren, Ashley Null (Brandon) and Brett Timothy (Courtney).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
