He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hartzell and Helen Austrino Hartzell; his former wife Janet Bowman; his siblings, Rose Brabrant and John Hartzell; and his granddaughter Sarah Tornincasa.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Barger; his children, James Hartzell Jr. (Sandy), David Hartzell (Janice) of Struthers, Diane Tornincasa (Mike) of Lolo, CA and Daniel Hartzell (Laura) of Brooksville, FL; his stepdaughter Linda Griffith (Joel) of Rockwood, MI; his brothers, Dick Hartzell (Cherie) of Youngstown and Ron Hartzell (Shelley) of Deltona, FL; and his grandchildren, Danielle Moore, Amanda Carter (Brandon), Danny Hartzell, Dylan Hartzell and Brent Griffith. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
