He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Garthwaite and Carrie Mellott (Seiders); his wife Myrtle; and his sister Bertha Rudy. He is survived by: his children, Wes Mellott (Jan) of Wooster and Connie Reding (Mike) of Lakeville; his grandchildren, Jonathan Edwards (Natasha), Bryan Edwards (Alyssa), Buffy Edwards, Kim Welton and Josh Lance; his great grandchildren, Kyle Welton, Kody Welton, Kendra Lance, Easton Edwards and Elora Edwards; and his brothers, Norman Mellott (Hazel) and James Mellott.
