He was predeceased by: his parents, Roosevelt Franklin and Rosetta Franklin (Jelk); his sons, John D. Franklin Jr. and Jerrold D. Franklin; and his brothers, Eddie Franklin and James Franklin.
He is survived by: his wife Jo Ann Richards; his children, Diana Burns (Ronald), Timothy Franklin, Rodney Franklin (Melissa), Ronald Franklin, Claudia Block, James Franklin and Richard Franklin; his adoptive daughter Debbie Vondenhuevel; and his sister Lula Mae Jones of Torrance. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
