He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Hoover and Susan Hoover (Shade); his siblings, Maxine Cole (George) and Dean Hoover (Lois); his granddaughter Mikki Ernsberger; and his son-in-law James Bilka.

He is survived by: his significant other Bonnie Slone of Shelby; his children, Becky Sue Ernsberger (Russell) of Little Elm, Bobbi Lynn Richer (David) of Santo, Texas, Kelly Gross of Shelby and Barry Gross of Worthington, Ohio; his grandchildren, Brian Ernsbrger (Lynn), Casey Tripp (Russell), Shawn Richer (Lauren), Jason Richer (Xandra), Adam Gaver (Jennifer), Jeffrey Bilka and Andrew Bilka (Jessie); his brothers, David Hoover (Garnett) of Shelby and Jacque Hoover (Judy) of Shelby; his sister-in-law Margie Hoover of Shelby; and his close friends, Rick, Bev Johnston, Al Frangella and Bruce Kehres. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
