He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Metzger and Mary Metzger (Harter); his brother Andrew Metzger; and his son-in-law Joe Coon. He is survived by: his wife Betty Tipul Metzger (Wilz); his children, Joe Metzger of Shelby, Jim Metzger of Shelby, Mark Metzger (Stephanie) of Shelby and Margaret Coon of Shelby; his sister Donna Mae Metzger of Shelby; and his grandchildren, Mathew Metzger, Benjamin Metzger, McKenzie Metzger, Alex Metzger, Justin Metzger (Morgan), Johnathan Metzger, Emily Eyerly (Brice) and Sam Coon.
