It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael Emmanuel Matsakis of Shadyside, Ohio, born in Wheeling, West Virginia, who passed away on July 26, 2023, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Vangela Matsakis and Emmanuel Matsakis; and his sister Sophie Makris. He is survived by: his wife Mary Matsakis; his sons, Emmanuel "Manny" Matsakis (Elizabeth), James Matsakis (Erin), George Matsakis (Heidi) and Elias Matsakis (Cori); his daughters-in-law, Darla Matsakis and Meg Hanshaw; his grandchildren, Meredith, Michael Emmanuel, Elias Emmanuel, Maria, Michael James, Stella, Emmanuel James, Lexie, Michael Elias, Nicholas Elias, Maia, Jack Morgese and Luke Morgese; and his niece Angela Makris Eliades.

“Michael E. Matsakis became my Dad on July 16th, 1994 just because I said "I do." He was always there for me, even as his human form failed him. I was lucky enough to hold his hand and talk to him during his final week. He knew it was me. He repeatedly told me how much he loved me as we talked about various things. I sat with him for hours so Mom could eat and get some rest. Thank you for letting me be there when you went, Dad. Now go fly with angels! I love you.”
