He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael V. B. and Thelma P. Matesen Coey; and his brother William P. Coey. He is survived by: his children, Brenda Kay Smith (David) of Washington, Michelle Christine Casto (Ed Kovaleski) of Blaine and Michael Andrew Coey (Jeanette) of Bridgeport; and his siblings, Mary Sue Cummings of Pennsylvania and Steve Coey of New Jersey.
