He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Helms and Bernice Helms (Younger); his son Brent Helms; and his siblings, Dorothy Krodell, Dennis Helms, Linda Helms, Eleanor Cross, Alice Helms and Erma Oaks.
He is survived by: his wife Germaine Helms (Schleyer); his son Jeffery Helms of Shadyside; his sisters, Patty Wienzreid of Bellaire, Mildred Bennett (Lonnie) of Moundsville, WV, Phyllis Porter, Wilma Helms of Reseida and Nancy Wilson of Shadyside, Ohio.; and his grandson David Helms of Shadyside. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
