He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Bentley and Nora Hamilton Bentley; his daughter Rhonda Bentley; and his siblings, Roger Bentley, Jim Bentley and Barbara Wells.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Skirvin Bentley; his son John Bentley II (Tracy) of West Portsmouth; his stepchildren, George Tackett (Dawna) of Edenburg, IN and Laurie Tackett of Indianapolis, IN; and his siblings, Robert Bentley (Judy) of Missouri, Ted Bentley (Vena) of Newark, Manila, Philippines and Juanita Ford of Portsmouth.
