He was predeceased by: his parents, Turner Short and Lela Short (Adams); his children, Robert W Short, John E Short, Mark Short and Cheryl Cook; and his brothers, Harold Short and Monty Short.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Short (Alexander); and his grandsons, Michael, Brian, Jeremy, Mark and John. He is also survived by his five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
